Our many home-based and commercial businesses make Galiano virtually a self-sustaining neighborhood. Islanders supporting island businesses is the goal the Galiano's Chamber of Commerce. Because of our small population base many owners offer more than one service and their businesses reflect this. Nevertheless, island businesses and their workers are competent, friendly and reliable. Day to day business is conducted on a first name basis. Galiano businesses also service the other Outer Gulf Islands and if you get up early you will see them catching the 6:45AM ferry to Mayne and Pender Islands.

Galiano Health Care Centre and St. Margaret's Church (Anglican) are located on Burrill Road. Galiano Island does not have a public transport system but a shuttle bus service is listed under Services.

Please note:
There are no banks on the Island. There is an ATM machine at the Galiano Garage, on your left, as you leave the ferry. Also at the Corner Store and the Hummingbird Pub, both located 3km from Sturdies Bay, at the main crossroads.

Fire Safety:
Fires are banned April 15 - October 15. The forest is tinder-dry in summer and early fall, and water levels are often critically low. Do not smoke in the forest or on the trails; it places the Island and you in danger.

Cyclists:
Driver visibility is limited. Use caution and keep to the right.

Camping:
Camping is restricted to the provincial parks. There are no trailer or RV hookups. Montague Harbour Park has 25 drive-in sites, 15 walk-in sites, toilets, water and campfire pits. Dionisio Point Park has marine access only; there is no public road access and fires are not permitted.

Ecology:
Galiano is home to many rare plants, trees, wildflowers and mosses, so please respect the fragile beauty of the island.

Garbage & Recycling:
There is no garbage dump. Visitors can recycle at our volunteer operated recycling centre and free exchange store (donations appreciated), at Galiano Island Recycling Resources, 220 Sturdies Bay Rd, across from the Hardware Store. Open Friday & Saturday: 10 am to 2 pm.
